Ernie Ranglin With Soul.
Ranglin joined the Telarc label with the 2000 release of Modern Answers to Old Problems, an exotic mix of jazz sophistication and Afro-pop syncopation that featured a world-beat backup unit: drummer Tony Allen (formerly of Fela Kuti) and a crew of London-based musicians with Nigerian connections.

Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. Soundtrack for Green Dolphin Street. Jack Sheldon and His Exciting All-Star Big-Band. Jack's Groove, arranged for big band by Lenny Niehaus. Jazz Track (with soundtrack Ascenseur pour l'échafaud), reissued as Basic Miles (1973) and 1958 Miles in Japan (1974), (also '58 Miles Featuring Stella by Starlight). Tony Perkins with Urbie Green's Orchestra. Dick Schory's Percussion Pops Orchestra. Cool Sax from Hollywood to Broadway. The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965, released in 1995 (song played on one of seven sets).
Goin' Places is the tenth album by the American folk music group The Kingston Trio, released in 1961 (see 1961 in music). It peaked at number three on the Billboard charts and spent 41 weeks in the Top 40. The lead-off single was "You're Gonna Miss Me" (a new arrangement of "Frankie and Johnny") which failed to chart. Its B-side was "En El Agua". Goin' Places was the last album recorded with founder Dave Guard as a member.
Ranglin finally received wide-scale distribution on his first Telarc release, Modern Answers To Old Problems, which combines the Afro-pop of Tony Allen, the jazz of Courtney Pine, the polyrhythmic percussiveness of Olalekan Babalola, the spirituality of singer Sylvia Tella's voice and the reggae of Ranglin. But Ranglin, even within his parameters of consistency, isn't one to be repetitious. So, his new album, Gotcha! doesn't abandon the ethnic blend of the previous album, as much.
