The Ladder is the eighteenth studio album by the English rock band Yes, released in September 1999 on Eagle Records. Their only studio album recorded with six full-time members in its line-up, work began at the end of their one-year world tour in support of their previous album Open Your Eyes (1997) and in celebration of the band's thirtieth anniversary.

The Ladder" was released in 1999, when it was assumed Yes had turned to dinosaurs and been forgotten. It is hard not to like this album. The cheerful sparkle of "Fragile" is there, if not the musical sophistication, and the pop sensibilities of "90125" without the filler and fluff. As a fan of British progressive rock I can find some good in nearly all the Yes albums, especially if you can get past the pretentious lyrics. Khoroshev demonstrates classical training through melodic lines and harmonic voicings. He combines this with occasional licks reminiscent of the glory days of the '70s with Rick Wakeman.

The Ladder, for the first time in years, is the Yes we all know and love, the admittedly pretentious but still irresistible ethereal high-octave warbling of John Anderson (Will someone please explain how his voice can still sound exactly the same as it did in 1969?), the virtuoso guitar work of Steve Howe, the almost equally mindblowing musicianship of whichever other of. the lads are on board for this go round, complete with visions of peace, children, hearts and mountains, and album artwork that looks like you've stepped into Disneyland. And the rest of the album strikes more of a balance between the more adventurous Yes records of the '70s and (in case you were unaware) the last few years, and the poppier stuff of the '80s and early '90s.
The Ladder saw Yes write an album collectively for the first time in a while; one of the conditions they agreed upon was that if a member contributed a song of theirs, the band would not use it. Sections of songs were then brought in and combined with another, particularly if they were not complete to allow them to be worked on further. Pictures, videos, biodata, and files relating to The Ladder (Yes album) are also acceptable encyclopedic sources.
