Why Atlanta blues guitarist and vocalist Curley Weaver is so obscure when cohorts Blind Willie McTell and Buddy Moss are so well-known is one of those why-ask-why deals. Weaver was an outstanding player and convincing singer, and this collection nicely outlines his attributes. McTell and Moss appear here in accompanying roles.
1928-1935: Georgia Guitar Wizard. Curley Weaver plays an uptempo sort of folk blues similar to Lead Belly. Many of his songs are in the blues vein, yet his guitar style is very similar to Lead Belly and Barbecue Bob and is thus one of the more rare and interesting styles played. This collection contains some of his earlier recordings and is a very enjoyable listen. Curley Weaver sings from his heart and plays intricate and experienced guitar.
