Panorama is the third studio album by American new wave band the Cars, released in 1980. The record marked a change from the upbeat pop rock and hard rock of the group's previous albums, representing a more aggressive and experimental sound. It was not as commercially successful as the Cars' previous or subsequent albums (until 1987's Door to Door). However, it did hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

Panorama" is a 1980 song by The Cars from their third studio album, Panorama. It was written by Ric Ocasek . Although "Panorama" did not see release as a single, a music video was filmed for the song. The video, described as "a fun spy film parody video" by Guarisco, was directed by Chuck Statler, notable for directing the band Devo's early music videos. The song "got some early MTV exposure". The video featured all five members of the band, as well as producer Roy Thomas Baker.

Panorama doubles down on the Cars’ inherent disaffection, ratcheting up the precision of the rhythms to the point where they almost seem robotic. In the context of Panorama, those hooks, whether guitar riffs or vocal melodies, don’t necessarily contribute to the kind of songs that would tear up the charts.
Panorama" was the album that influenced my own music production skills - I always aspired to pull off what they did here. The only complaint about the sound is that things are a bit thinner and tinnier on this album, weather it's the Fender Guitars or if it's just a part of how they got that ginormous stereo picture, I'm not sure. And on the subject of The Cars and their harmonies, the singing skills of the entire band must have been rehearsed a lot. Theres even a clip of them practicing some harmony lines on the Panorama tour on their DVD "The Cars Unlocked" where they are going through the harmony lines for "My Best Friend's Girl" (mock sock-hop style for comedic effect), and "Don't Tell Me N. Even goofing off and having fun they sound good. I'll give it my ultra-rare 10.
I have most of The Cars’ albums on Mobile Fidelity Soundlabs pressings, Panorama, however, was not produced in these audiophile pressings. I was less familiar with this album, but I am a big fan of The Cars and wanted copies of all their albums. The third of their albums, Panorama, was perhaps not as popular as the rest but does have a few hits like Touch And Go, Gimme Some Slack and Don't Tell Me No. Overall it is a solid album and has that classic Cars sound.
