Plastic Kneecap will be released on March 2, 2018 by Raw Tonk Records. Album was recorded by innovative and interesting jazz masters quartet – it’s David Birchall guitar), Andrew Cheetham (drums), Colin Webster (alto, baritone saxophones) and Otto Willberg (double bass). These four musicians have energetic and outstanding playing style – it’s based on avant-garde jazz elements and free improvisation.
New quartet comprised of long-term sparring partners on the fertile Manchester underground scene David Birchall (guitar), Andrew Cheetham (drums), and Otto Willberg (double bass), alongside London based saxophonist Colin Webster. Even in the realm of free improvisation, music rarely sounded this brutally physical.

It’s the opposite of the rather studious air gap built up between those two disciplines in the 1970s and 80s by the post-SME generation of improvisers, with untrammelled hybridity taking the place of ideological purity. Birchall pricks and stimulates and Willberg slides quickly over the bass strings. In the last part of the album, ‘Fluent Still Spill Sealent’, is in the beginning an a-rhythmic pattern of Birchalls guitar which is most striking. Andreae sounds sharp and mean and Willberg’s bass growls and growls. Nakamura produces long sharp sounds, but also noise.
