Buddy Guy. Biography by Mark Deming. Contender for the title of greatest blues guitarist ever, with a fiery, screechy, super-quick technique that influenced countless followers.
George "Buddy" Guy (born July 30, 1936) is an American blues guitarist and singer. He is an exponent of Chicago blues and has influenced eminent guitarists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer. In the 1960s, Guy played with Muddy Waters as a house guitarist at Chess Records and began a musical partnership with the harmonica player Junior Wells.

Of the 15+ Buddy Guy CD's and several DVD recordings of various and eclectic live performances, "Breaking Out" is a must have for any serious Buddy Guy fan (as is "Collected"). As a bonus (in my eyes), note that the last few cuts on "Breaking Out" feature Buddy's brother, Phil Guy, who is nearly as amazing as Buddy on the guitar and as good as any blues musician with his vocals (other than Buddy, of course). You can't go wrong with this CD! (Note that this CD has been around for some time now although it is now being sold in Digipack form. It was during the period after Chess Records which restrained his unique free flowing style and the listener can hear what us serious Buddy Guy fans love in his playing. I highly recommend this disk for anybody who has his post 90's discs and wants more music.
Buddy guy: breaking out (1980). 1) Have You Ever Been Lonesome; 2) You Can Make It If You Try; 3) Break Out All Over You; 4) She Winked Her Eye; 5) I Didn't Know My Mother Had A Son Like Me; 6) Boogie Family Style; 7) You Called Me In My Dream; 8) Me & My Guitar. Well, at least the good old Only Solitaire is here to tell you that Breaking Out sounds nothing like anything that Buddy had put out prior to that - and only partially like anything that he would put out after that. The oddity of the record is that, while remaining firmly grounded in standard blues territory, this time it's all about the tone.
