Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! is the debut studio album by the American new wave band Devo. It was originally released in August 1978 on the Warner Bros. label (Virgin Records in Europe. Produced by Brian Eno, the album was recorded between October 1977 and February 1978, primarily in Cologne, Germany. Billboard chart and No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart.

A: We Are Devo! The first studio album by Devo that started off a chain of successful albums that made Devo a big time band. Devo also got onto the map with this album. Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! Q&A. Producers Brian Eno. Writers Bob Mothersbaugh, Gary Jackett, Gerald Casale & 3 more.

A: We Are Devo! is its authority: Devo presents their dissociated, chillingly cerebral music as a definitive restatement of rock & roll’s aims and boundaries in the Seventies. The band’s cover version of Satisfaction, for instance, with its melody line almost completely erased and the lyrics delivered in a yelping, droogy chant to mechanical rhythms, at first comes across as an intentional travesty, a typical New Wave rejection of the oldfart generation. The same could be said for the whole album. Yet all of these influences are flattened into an arid, deliberately fragmented science-fiction landscape. There’s not an ounce of feeling anywhere, and the only commitment is to the distancing aesthetic of the puton.

A: We Are Devo! was a seminal touchstone in the development of American new wave. Q: Are We Not Men also revived the absurdist social satire of the Mothers of Invention, claiming punk rock's outsider alienation as a home for freaks and geeks. While Devo's appeal was certainly broader, their sound was tailored well enough.

Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! is the first album released by the American new wave music band Devo. This album was produced by Brian Eno, recorded mostly in Cologne, Germany and released in the . Records company in 1978. It reached number 12 on the UK album charts and number 78 on the .

Comments to album Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!

This is Crazy. I’ve had my worn out copy I got new in 1982 and I have been wait years for a reissue. This is what we get? A picture disc that cannot be as good as a nice simple 180 gram BLACK record? Talk about DEVOlution. The joke is on us.
Quemal
Honestly, even the fact this is a picture disk it sounds great. Not superb or perfect, like in the really quiet moments you do hear surface noise, but really this is equivalent to a EX copy of the original, with the surface noise not being noticeable during play. Highly recommend.
Kegal
Agreed, even if I don’t like the marketing blurb, I was quite shocked and pleased to hear how good this pressing is, especially Side A. Very little surface noise on Side A, though there’s quite a bit more on Side B, though still listenable and the master underneath is great

"Devo's debut album on picture disc for the first time"https://www.discogs.com/Devo-Q-Are-We-Not-Men-A-We-Are-Devo/release/314274
Iriar
Exactly. I saw that when it came in for RSD and called bullshit!
Jode
exactly. I had the original pic disc and when this Black Friday reissue showed up to my local shop I just pointed at it and said "wrong". There's a lot of just plain wrong hype stickers these days
