The discography of Bad Religion, an American punk rock band, consists of 16 studio albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, one box set, two extended plays (EPs), 29 singles, five video albums and 25 music videos. Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1980, the band originally featured vocalist Greg Graffin, guitarist Brett Gurewitz, bassist Jay Bentley and drummer Jay Ziskrout, who released their self-titled debut EP in February 1981 on Gurewitz's label Epitaph Records.
Stranger than Fiction is the eighth full-length studio album (tenth release overall) by Bad Religion, released in 1994 (see 1994 in music). Stranger Than Fiction was their first album released on the major label Atlantic Records (although that label re-released the previous album, Recipe for Hate), and also its last release with guitarist Brett Gurewitz, who left just prior to the album's 1994-1995 world tour, only to return to the band seven years later.
This is the record that took Bad Religion from being a premiere punk band to becoming something far bigger. Featuring iconic cover art by Fred Hidalgo, "Recipe For Hate" retains the band's hallmark energy and rebellion exemplified by the classic "American Jesus," but the sonic palette has been slightly expanded. With "Struck A Nerve" the album featured the band's first song to be played on radio since their debut seven inch. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blond contribute guest vocals

Bad Religion released their second major-label album, The Gray Race, in early 1996, but it didn't achieve the same results as its predecessors. No Substance followed in 1998, and two years later the band returned with New America, which was produced by Todd Rundgren. Although it featured Bad Religion's best work in years, Atlantic subsequently dropped the band, and they returned to Epitaph. In the summer of 2001, Gurewitz rejoined the lineup after a six-year absence, and the group began work on The Process of Belief
