Again, Linda Ronstadt repeats her slick, Californian pop/country-rock formula on Hasten Down the Wind. When the material is first-rate - such as "That'll Be the Day" or "Crazy" - Ronstadt's performances are terrific, but on the subpar songs - such as the three Karla Bonoff numbers - she's dragged down with her material.
Hasten Down the Wind is the Grammy Award-winning seventh studio album by oducer Linda Ronstadt. Released in 1976, it became her third straight million-selling album. HASTEN DOWN THE WIND is a triumph for Ronstadt from beginning to end. It follows PRISONER IN DISGUISE and runs circles around that album which many considered the best of her career. For me, it is this one. Ronstadt has always been a superb interpreter of the true emotional experience in a song and HASTEN could easily be considered a concept album. It follows the raw and heartwrenching emotions involved in longing for love and trying to let go of lost love. Linda Ronstadt is in fine voice on this album and the sound does full justice to the recordings. Enjoyable from first cut to last. Linda Ronstadt is probably the best female ballad singer since Jo Stafford. A thoroughly enjoyable album throughout.
