Tim Maia (Brazilian Portuguese:, born Sebastião Rodrigues Maia; September 28, 1942 – March 15, 1998) was a Brazilian musician, songwriter and businessman known for his iconoclastic, ironic, outspoken, and humorous musical style. Maia contributed to Brazilian music within a wide variety of musical genres, including soul, funk, bossa nova, disco, romantic ballads, pop, rock, jazz, baião and MPB. He introduced the soul style on the Brazilian musical scene.
When Tim Maia 1970 was released later in 1970, the album was hailed a groundbreaking, genre-melting classic by critics. The album was a successful and seamless marriage disparate genres. Soul and funk rubbed shoulders with samba and Baião. There’s even hints of easy listening and soul jazz on Tim Maia 1970. It also featured three future Tim Maia classics, that showed different sides to Tim Maia. There’s several ballads on Tim Maia 1970. Cristina and Padre Cícero are soul-baring ballads. So are Você Fingiu and Eu Amo Você, where the lushest strings prove the perfect accompaniment to Tim’s vocal. Then on Cristina, Tim combines power, passion and emotion. However, there’s more to Tim Maia 1970 than ballads. Risos is a mid-tempo track that floats along, constantly captivating. Jurema sounds as if was recorded in Memphis.

TIM MAIA (1978) aka Tim Maia em inglês. And by the time this album came out, Tim had truly alienated most of the record industry. Although an innovator and an entrepreneur in a million ways (he was one of the first Brazilian artists to found his own label), he had relatively no business acumen, and his penchant for not keeping to scheduled meetings and even his own concerts - showing up obscenely late, or not at all - had grown so famous as to make concert promoters and. record labels reluctant to work with him. Warner Brothers took on a risk putting out ‘Disco Club’ in 1978.
