Obey The Brave (ex-Despised Icon) are streaming their entire debut album Young Blood online via Altpress. Epitaph Records will release the outing on August 28th.

Obey The Brave is a Canadian metalcore quintet from Montreal and Ottawa. Unlike most young bands of this ilk that lean harder on the side of metal or hardcore, Obey The Brave’s 2012 debut album Young Blood strikes a symbiotic balance between the two genres. This makes for a ferociously healthy opening cut - Lifestyle gradually builds on John Campbell’s thick, sludgy riffs as Alex Erian rips into the song with bursting yelps and guttural howls. It Starts Today follows throwing leaden punches as drummer Stevie Morotti and bass player Miguel Lepage approximate an army of war horses galloping.

I?™ve spent many a night in my room, curtains closed, door shut, with only the light from my laptop?™s screen acting as a potential beacon for the desperate moths outside, trying to smash my window with their bodyweight. I?™ll be lying over the covers of the bed, nodding my head to the music pouring out of my laptop, typing away at this very keyboard, typing, typing, typing. And it made sense when news of Obey The Brave came around. Made sense that Erian would become part of a hardcore band after the demise of Despised Icon. After all, there?™d be no point in him working in Burger King or wherever when he could use his vocals on another project.

Seconds into "Lifestyle," the punishing opening track on Young Blood, the debut album from Canadian metalcore upstarts Obey the Brave, these lyrics beam out with vitriolic fervor, both setting the tone for the record and relaying Obey the Brave's mission statement. The album's 11 tracks grind by relentlessly, brutal Pantera-influenced metal riffs meeting up with melodic hardcore choruses and plenty of mosh-inducing breakdowns and shouted group vocals supporting singer Alex Erian's (former voicebox for Despised Icon) gruff and growling lead vocals.
